In response to Council Member Rev. Rubén Díaz, Sr’s press conference against the Reproductive Health Act today, Melissa Mark-Viverito and leading New York City women’s organizations released the following statement:
“Shame on Rubén Díaz Sr. and those who choose to join his hateful anti-choice rally. It’s 2019, and as much as you’d like — you cannot control women’s bodies.
Rubén Díaz Sr.’s pathetic protest today is just one more reason why we must pass the Reproductive Health Act — because there will always be men trying to exert control over our bodies and our freedom. We just spent eight years fighting to turn Albany blue and pass this bill. With Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade is on the line, and we need the Reproductive Health Act now more than ever. Hard as they try, no man is going to stand in the way and block our reproductive freedom.”
